The Client:
Farm Hitch is the brain child of Glenn Cruickshank MD of Shanks Engineering. In 2004 Glenn set up his own engineering firm and this has grown year on year since.  Shanks Engineering have a state 15000sqft of the art manufacturing facility in Carrickmacross Co. Monaghan where design right through to manufacture all happens under one roof.

The Project:
The Farm Hitch is a tractor mounted device used for the quick fitment of agri-implements. It enables hydraulic, road light and PTO connections to be made between the implement and the tractor without the driver needing to exit the cab. This has labour saving, safety, efficiency and comfort benefits.

The Farm Hitch consists of two primary assemblies, the tractor mounted assembly (TMA) and the implement mounted assembly (IMA). Both are primarily welded constructions of profile cut steel plate and steel box section which have been galvanised to provide corrosion protection.

Project Engineering were hired to assist with the mechanical design of the Farm Hitch. Using our 3D CAD we were able to model the Farm Hitch and simulate the hitching and PTO connection process. This allowed the design to be finalised with minimal physical prototyping saving cost and time.

Project Engineering identified the relevant European Directives, Classifications and Harmonised Standards. Working closely with the Client, Project Engineering prepared the essential CE Marking technical documentation, arranged the necessary electrical safety testing and constructed the Risk Management File.

Project Engineering prepared a comprehensive Installation and User Manual for the Farm Hitch to meet the requirements set out in the CE Marking Directives and Standards.

Client Testimonial:

“Project Engineering were great on this project. The standard of documents and the thoroughness of their approach was excellent. The drawings and user manual were very clear, well laid-out and professional. Engaging Project Engineering allowed us to focus our resources on other aspects of the project and ultimately deliver the project on schedule.”
